Charges Dropped for Man in Party Shooting
Officials have dropped a criminal charge of deadly conduct against Willie John-Peters Young, 21, who had originally been accused of firing a gun at a Cypress-area house party where two teens were killed Saturday.
Another man, 18-year-old Randy Stewart, remains in Harris County Jail, charged with aggravated assault. Harris County Sheriff's investigators say he fired a gun at the party.
According to a Harris County Sheriff's Office press release, "three people who knew Young by name and appearance before Saturday told investigators after the shootings that Young had fired a gun at the party. But after a charge of deadly conduct was filed against him, and while investigators carried out their responsibility to fully explore all evidence, other witnesses came forward and provided information that cleared Young."
Citing the January shooting at Lone Star College in which another man was originally charged and then cleared, community activist Quanell X accused the HCSO's investigators of being "lazy" at a press conference protesting Young's arrest Tuesday.
Anyone with information about the shootings should call the HCSO Homicide Division at 713-967-5810 or Crime Stoppers of Houston at 713-222-TIPS. You can also download and use the Sheriff's Office's iWatch Harris County free app to e-mail or text investigators anonymously.
