College and NFL Football: This Weekend's Best Bets
We are down to the home stretch of the football betting season — bowl games and meaningful (and a few not meaningful at all) NFL December fames. Last week, I was able to climb out of my multi week slump to go 3-3, which means that if you follow my picks, you finally only lost juice, and if you've been fading my picks lately, then HA HA! You lost juice!
I really like the board this week, as there are some good opportunities to bet against some really shitty quarterbacks, so let's get this thing started!
New Mexico +9 over Arizona (New Mexico Bowl)
Let's start off bowl season with a bang, and get out fast betting on an undermanned Mountain West team against a Pac-12 school that likely has little desire to be in Albuquerque in December. I know that Bob Davie is the head coach of New Mexico so there's a good chance for some sort of head scratching moment, but the Lobos beat Boise State down the stretch of the regular season as a four touchdown underdog, I think they can hang with a questionably motivated Arizona team.
JAGUARS -3 over Falcons
Since their 5-0 start, the Falcons have been one of the worst teams in all of football, going a putrid 1-7 since then. This is a battle of former third overall picks in the draft, Matt Ryan (2008) for Atlanta and Blake Bortles (2014) for Jacksonville. Crazy as it sounds, Bortles is the one threatening 40 touchdown passes on the season, not Ryan, and Jacksonville in the last couple weeks has become one of those frisky teams who bely their record a little bit this time of year.
Chiefs -7 over RAVENS
A chance to bet against Jimmy Clausen…..AGAIN?!? THANK YOU, FOOTBALL GODS!
GIANTS +5.5 over Panthers
At some point along the way, the undefeated Panthers are going to slip up, and with the Falcons and the Bucs being the only remaining games on their schedule after this week, I think a road trip to New York to play a Giants team who is losing the tiebreakers in the NFC East right now (i.e. MUT WIN SITUATION) feels like a tight spot for the Panthers.
STEELERS -6.5 ober Broncos
On Bovada's odds board this week, the Steelers were the number two listed team on the board to win the AFC, behind only the Patriots, which is something considering that if the season ended today, the Steelers wouldn't even be in the playoffs! Now that they've got a healthy Ben Roethlisberger, the Steelers are scary. Meanwhile, the steam seemed to run out of the Brock Osweiler experience last weekend against Oakland.
Lions/SAINTS OVER 51at
I can't blindly take the Saints at home in prime time anymore because their defense is a sieve. However, I can bet on lots and lots of points being scored, can't I?
Last Week: 3-3
Season Record: 38-51-1
