Colts Fans Basically Think Andre Johnson Is a Giant Piece of Crap (w/ Tweets)
Forty catches. That's allegedly the amount of productivity that Texans head coach Bill O'Brien envisioned out of Andre Johnson had Johnson remained a Houston Texan in 2015. That's according to Johnson and his camp. The possible future Hall of Famer also claimed that he was told he would have a diminished role in the Texans' offense. I think it's safe to say after watching five hours of O'Brien on Hard Knocks that there was no posturing or posing going on with Johnson in these conversations — this was O'Brien's honest assessment.
Johnson, predictably, disagreed, and decided to take his talents to an AFC South rival, signing a three-year deal with the Indianapolis Colts. It was a signing that, along with the signing of running back Frank Gore (a Johnson teammate at the University of Miami), was hailed as a possible game changer at the highest reaches of the Super Bowl odds board. Andre Johnson would be the missing piece for the Colts.
Well, two games in, it looks like O'Brien's assessment was the correct one and the one thing still missing from the Colts at this early juncture is a positive integer in the "win" column.
Seven catches, 51 yards and a ton of Mopey Andre Johnson Face. That's what the Colts have received so far for the $10 million they guaranteed Johnson when they signed him in March. If you thought the Texans used Andre Johnson like a souped-up H-back in 2014, the Colts appear to be about two weeks away from having him line up in front of Gore and block for him in short yardage.
At this point, It's not a reach to say that Andre Johnson may very well be done. Around age 32, that's when elite receivers begin to fall off. Andre Johnson is 34, so the drop-off may have begun last season right before our very eyes, and now he's essentially operating as an unwitting sleeper cell that's taking down the Colts from within. As you can imagine, Colts fans have not taken too kindly to Johnson's act thus far, and after a 20-7 loss on Monday night to the New York Jets, it got ugly on Twitter for ol' number-80-who-is-now-81.
