You can always count on Sen. Ted Cruz to lead the charge, even if it sometimes turns out he didn't entirely understand what he was charging toward (read: the Lorne Michaels bit about corporations, most of what he said about Obamacare, ect.). This week Cruz was ready with a neo-classic Cruz response after President Obama gave a Sunday talk-show interview supporting Net Neutrality.

Of course, Cruz immediately took to social media to share his disgust with what he claimed would the Obamacare-ization of the internet. However, while Cruz has a host of adoring fans, his claims about Net Neutrality backfired when he (or more likely one of his staff minions) took to Facebook to share the above screengrabbed post and rail some more about how Obama will ruin the internet and he is just trying to save it for the good of the people.

The people -- particularly the more Libertarian leaning factions of the Republican party -- fired back on ye olde Facebook, and, based on the comments on the post, a surprising number of them were not amused.

And what brought all this ire down on one of the top far right stars of the GOP? Well, for one thing Cruz has accepted campaign donations from telecom companies like Comcast, as The Oatmeal has so eloquently pointed out. (On a side note, a whole bunch of the irate commenters on the Facebook thread posted this Oatmeal story by way of rebuttal.)

So that plus the fact that the Libertarian element of the GOP tends to like things that come with as little government wrangling as possible, left a whole bunch of Cruz's social media audience angry and ready to pummel him on the comment boards. One even threatened to go become a Democrat over the whole thing. A lot of people just vowed then and there not to vote for Cruz in his seemingly inevitable 2016 White House run. We rounded up some of our favorites, but there are more where these came from. At last count the post had gathered more than 2,800 comments, and a ton of those comments were not made in praise of Cruz.

In fact the top comment on the posts was one succinctly declaring Cruz's "Noble Net Neutrality Stand" as absolute tripe:

There were the long silent but irritated non-Tea Party wings of the GOP who just couldn't stay quiet on a stance they viewed as sheer idiocy at best or the convenient political views that money can buy, at worst:

The ones who were completely exasperated:

And then there were followers who admitted that despite being total Cruz-heads (like Deadheads but minus the music, Jerry Garcia and a whole bunch of weed) but still couldn't get behind what he was claiming. When you've lost the rock star devotees, maybe you should rethink your stance:
