For April 1: The Five Best "Fool" Movies, No Kidding
Whether somebody posted those drunken emails you mistakenly sent to the entire company on their MySpace or you merely wasted valuable internet time last night making sure your computer was protected against the "Conficker" virus (*cough*), you may very find yourself the victim of a prank this April Fool's Day. But don't worry, you're far from the only "fool" out there, even in Movieland:
5. Fool for Love (1985)
Hard as it may be to believe, this Robert Altman-helmed adaptation of a Sam Shepard play featuring a then-unknown Kim Basinger in the lead female role didn't exactly set the box office on fire in 1985. And it wasn't even in direct competition with Rambo.
4. Screwed (AKA Foolproof) (2000)
Norm MacDonald is funny, which is apparent if you've ever listened to his albums or seen him interviewed on Conan or Letterman. Where it isn't apparent is in just about any movie he's ever made.
3. Henry Fool (1997)
What's that? A Hal Hartley movie with talented actors portraying societal fringe-dwellers forced to mouth some of the most labored dialogue imaginable? Who ever heard of such a thing?
2. Nobody's Fool (1994)
No, it's not just a song by 80s hair icons Cinderella, but rather the film featuring one of Paul Newman's finer Oscar-nominated performances (which he lost to Tom Forrest Gump Hanks, of course). And don't overlook the smoldering sexual tension between Newman and Jessica Tandy, which melted Medic-Alert bracelets from Phoenix to Ft. Myers.
1. April Fool's Day (1986)
Memorable only for the fact that it features Deborah "Can you hammer a six-inch spike through a board with your penis?" Foreman. Truth be told, I missed most of the salient plot points at the time because I was (finally) dating a girl who would make out with me in a theater. I'm sure Deborah would understand.
