Ford Jumping On Houston's Electric-Car Trend
Houston has been getting a lot of attention for its seeming devotion to the electric car -- or at least its demonstrated devotion to issuing plans about using electric cars -- and now Ford is jumping on the bandwagon.
The company announced today it would be teaming with CenterPoint Energy to prepare two Texas cities for more extensive use of electric vehicles -- us and Austin.
Get ready for stories saying "Austin, sure -- but Houston?" Suck it, hatahs. We're all about the electric cars here.
Just what will Ford and CenterPoint be doing?
They "will work together to develop consumer outreach and education programs on electric vehicles as well as share information on charging needs and requirements to ensure the electrical infrastructure can support the necessary demand," a release says.
(We couldn't find the release on CenterPoint's website; we have a call in to them.)
"Ford has a an aggressive plan to bring five new electrified vehicles to market over the next two years including the Transit Connect Electric later this year and the Focus battery electric in late 2011," said Chris Pick, Global Electrification Business Planning Manager, Ford Motor Company. "There is an incredible excitement for electric vehicles in the Houston area. To support the roll out and acceptance of these vehicles in Houston and across the country, it is crucial to work with local utilities to make sure the necessary electric infrastructure is ready."
See? There's "incredible excitement for electric vehicles in the Houston area." We told you so!
