Hang in There, Bob
By now you've probably heard that this morning, former Houston Mayor Bob Lanier collapsed at Ken Lay's funeral at the downtown First United Methodist Church. Reports say that Lanier, a friend of Lay's, turned and waved at reporters as he entered the church. Once inside, he collapsed and hit his head on the floor. (Damned media.)
Good news is that he's now awake, stable and is making jokes with the staff at St. Luke's Episcopal Hospital. Kudos to KHOU for excellent spot coverage of the incident, both on television and online. (Their coverage of the conspiracy theories surrounding Ken Lay's death was pretty snazzy, too, though they could've gotten a better looking talking head for their blog coverage.)
Also, when perusing the KHOU site in the morning, we were a little surprised to find that no one had left any "get well" wishes to Mayor Bob in the featured guestbook. Seems the messages are thoroughly scrutinized before they run. Nice to see that there are at least a few now. Here's hoping our message makes it through. We're pretty sure Mayor Bob is a big fan of ours. — Steven Devadanam
