Houstonian Comes Home For A Beach Volleyball Tournament
For the first time, Houston will be a stop on the AVP Pro Beach Volleyball Tour, which means that Alicia Polzin can finally play in her hometown.
The 6'3" Polzin has been with the organization since 2002, but before this year's tournament at Westside Tennis & Fitness (May 15-17) the only Lone Star stops were in Austin and Dallas.
So in addition to kicking some ass on the sand, Polzin is looking forward to some good grub. "The only place you can get a good barbecue sandwich is Texas," she told Hair Balls. "I could definitely go for barbecue. I could go for a chicken-fried steak....We don't have kolaches, so I make my mom drive to the Shipley's down the street, and we get kolaches when I'm in town."
Polzin (maiden name Mills) has played professionally since 1994, when she played indoor ball for two years on the USA National Team, which wound up grabbing the silver in the Goodwill Games in Russia. Then it was off to Europe for a few years. Polzin, who played college ball for Long Beach State, lives in Tarzana, California, with her husband Scott.
Whether you're a long-time fan or have never seen a game, now would be a good time to support a hometown player. And don't forget the kolaches.
