Ira Jones, 33, was arguing with his 17-year-old girlfriend Keira Jones June 18 in the home they shared in the 1000 block of East 32nd on the north side when she poured boiling water on him, according to court documents.
The two had been arguing because Jones had been seen talking to another woman, the court documents say. The pair had lived together for at least two years, beginning when Keira Jones was 15.
While the victim was in the hospital, she was charged with the first-degree felony of aggravated assault of a family member that uses a deadly weapon and causes serious injury.
A murder charge would also be a first-degree felony; the DA's office has not yet decided whether to upgrade the charges, the Houston Chronicle reports.
