Jeu Sanchez: Cock Fighting in Silsbee, Swears He Won't Do It Again

Little Jerry?
Little Jerry?

More than 50 people were arrested in Silsbee, a little town near Beaumont in Hardin County, for cock fighting. According to multiple reports, the cock fighting ring was centered on a property off Highway 92 north of the small town. Jeu Sanchez, 48, was arrested with the others and is the owner of the property where the fighting took place and is the alleged ring leader.

But, according to 12newsnow.com, Sanchez says he will not do it again and the only reason he did it in the first place was because he needed the money.

To be honest, I didn't realize there were cock fighting rings anywhere outside Haiti or action movies where an ex-military guy who has become a drunk spends all his time before being recruited by his former commander for a mission vital to the safety of the country and perhaps the world (hey, Hollywood, call me!).

Deputies found only seven roosters alive out of what Sanchez says were about 100. They also found razors and spurs used on the roosters' legs as well as B-12 and steroids injected into the birds. According to Sanchez, more than 100 people were at the fight, but the ones not arrested ran. Shocker.

The news report claims Sanchez makes $3,000 hosting the cock fights, but he's done after his stint in county jail. "He says he's through with cockfighting, because he says his two children are more important than the money he makes on the illegal activity," the report says.

The bust represents the most people ever arrested in a single outing in Hardin County.
