KUHT Hopes June Will Finally Put Ike In The Rear-View Mirror
KUHT, the city's PBS affiliate, is still struggling with hard times that started with Ike and have worsened with the economic downturn.
The station's impressive eight-year-old studios got hit hard by Ike, and the insurance claims for the almost $1 million in damage are still being hashed out, KUHT's Julie Coan tells Hair Balls.
"It'll be another month before we know what will be covered. It's my understanding the delay is due to the fact the station's claim was include in the University's claims for Ike," she says.
When Ike hit the station was on track to meet its fundraising goal; the drive had to be canceled when it was $700,000 short.

They've instituted spending cutbacks, like everybody else, but they're still $300,000 short. (A little more than half the annual $9 million budget comes from donations.) The number of donors stayed strong, but the amount each donated was smaller.
Which means June is going to bring a very, very big push.
"We have some terrific new programs during this drive. It's a great blend of music programs, financial and self-help shows as well as a brand new locally produced documentary about the Montrose neighborhood," membership director Michal Heiplik said in a release.
Let's guess: A Moody Blues concert, a Doo-Wop reunion, and then an evening of one-hit wonders from the `60s and `70s, all delivered 10 minutes at a time, interrupted by loooong pitches for coffee cups, handbags and CDs.
It's worked before!!
But this time, it looks like it needs to work more than ever.
Here's some video of the post-Ike scene at the studios.
