Cyclists discovered a body floating in Buffalo Bayou at 600 Franklin Street early Saturday morning. It was the fourth body found floating in the bayou this month.
Police identified the man as 43-year-old Walter Burks. Officials say an investigation is pending as police wait for autopsy results.
Two bodies were recovered from Buffalo Bayou over the August 2 weekend. The first victim, an unidentified male, was found at the 700 block of North San Jacinto at about 1:45 p.m. on August 2 by a student at the University of Houston Downtown.
According to the police report, the student noticed what appeared to be a body floating in the bayou and notified police. No ID was found on the man, nor were there any signs that would suggest foul play, police say. That investigation is also pending while police wait for autopsy results.
The second victim was spotted near the 200 block of North York on August 3, by a family riding bikes along the bayou. The man's body was tangled debris, and he was shirtless, wearing only brown pants, according to police.

The man was later identified as Guillermo Legoreta, 43, of Mexico. Legoreta had a black Kyocera flip phone in his possession, as well as a Mexican peso in his pocket, according to police reports. According to his autopsy, Legoreta suffered no apparent injuries.
The following Wednesday, on August 6, another body was spotted in the bayou, close to the area where White Oak Bayou and Buffalo Bayou merge at the 900 block of Commerce near Main.
A work crew in a boat cleaning debris from the waterways spotted the body near the Main Street Bridge, according to HPD Homicide Sgt. Williams. The body was wrapped in plastic and sheets, which were tied tight.
"With all the rain we've had recently it could have come from way down the bayou, or it could have been dropped here," said Williams. "It's clear the body was dropped and this was not a natural death."
