Snowpocalypse Part Two: The Wrap-Up
The carnage in my back yard on Tuesday.

It's hard to believe, but our long, frigid nightmare is over. Okay, it wasn't particularly long or even that nightmarish, but Snowpocalypse the Sequel is over and we can get back to what we do well in southeast Texas. No, not sweat. We'll save that for August. For now, we'll have typical January weather, which is to say weather most of the country will hate us for having.
But before we do, a quick recap of what we just experienced. Tuesday -- remember when the entire county shut down? -- was not as bad as predicted, but wasn't without intrigue. Most of the day for the entire city was spent at or below freezing and there was a good dose of widespread precipitation that fell as a mixture of rain, sleet, freezing rain and, yes, even snow.
There were no significant accumulations of anything on the ground, though broad-leafed plants, roofs and anything that remained susceptible to the cold breeze managed to hold onto a few pellets and flakes here and there, some all the way into today.
For those who might complain about the overreaction by city and county officials, the fact that there were very few accidents on city streets and highways is an indication the officials' concerns were both valid and effective.
Today, things will warm up considerably by this past week's standards. The sun will come out and get temperatures up into the upper 40s. Icicles will melt and the last remnants of what little snowfall we got on Tuesday will be wiped away. It will still be chilly tonight with temperatures just above or a couple degrees below freezing for the entire region, but by the end of the week, just like Neo when he took a bite of the cookie the Oracle gave him (Matrix reference!), you'll forget all about the winter weather and get back to business as usual, which means temperatures in the low 70s in January. God bless Texas.
