Southwest Airlines Is Headed To Newark, Baby
Houstonians, your low-fare dreams have come true -- Southwest is about to start non-stop flights to Newark.
Yes, as in New Jersey.
It may be on the other side of the Hudson, but getting into the city from Newark can be -- not always, but it can be -- less of a hassle than La Guardia, where Southwest now flies. And if you have family in New Jersey, as everyone should, then your hassle factor just got lessened considerably.
SWA will be offering routes between Newark and Baltimore, Phoenix, Denver and us beginning next June.
"This announcement is the second wave of Southwest's new schedule at Newark Liberty International to fulfill additional demand to and from New York City for our customers," said SWA CEO Gary Kelly. "More service, more flights, and more connections mean a stronger network from East to West."
For at least the moment, SWA is offering $129 Houston-Newark one-way fares. Which doesn't sound outrageously cheap, to be sure, but Southwest always brings the promise of good bargains at some point.
