The "Mutiny on the Bounty" Ship May Be Coming to Galveston
Headed Galveston way?
A replica of the Bounty -- the ship that gave us the Mutiny -- may spend the winter at Galveston's Pier 21, ready to receive guests and tours.
The ship, which has been used in such epics as the Mutiny remake, Pirates of the Caribbean and SpongeBob SquarePants, according to impeccable Web resources, is in negotiations to park itself near downtown Galveston from November to April.
Galveston's Wharves Board of Trustees approved their part of the agreement earlier this week, the Galveston County Daily News reports, opening the way to negotiations.
If it comes and operates as it has in previous wintering seasons, the ship will be open for dockside tours but not sailing expeditions.

The ship, built in the early `60s for the Marlon Brando version of the oft-told seafaring tale, is actually larger than the actual Bounty was, in order to accommodate cameras and film crew.
It's 180 feet long and 30 feet wide, with a height of 115 feet.
The ship itself has suffered some neglect through the years, but is in the midst of a multi-stage repair job financed by the private corporation that owns it.
Hopefully it gives off a feeling for the Age of Sail, if not for the obsessions of William Bligh and Fletcher Christian.
Galveston officials hope that the city's own sailing ship, the Elissa, will be back from a repair job in order to join the Bounty on the docks as a tourist attraction.
