Theodore Jones, 31, Bayou Body Count No. 260
Police say a woman was intoxicated, possibly on prescription drugs, when she drove into and killed a man who was standing with his seven-month-old son at a bus stop.
Theodore Jones, 31, was killed. His son, Seth, who was in a stroller, was taken to the hospital with a broken arm.
Brenda Gail Johnson, 50, faces intoxication manslaughter charges in the incident, which occurred about 9 a.m. Wednesday in the 3100 block of West Little York.
Witnesses told an HPD officer that a white Chrysler 300 was driving erratically westbound on the street.
As the officer attempted to locate the vehicle, he observed it swerve off the roadway and strike two pedestrians at a bus stop. One of the pedestrians (Seth) was in a baby stroller. Johnson continued driving westbound, still weaving in and out of traffic.
The officer then turned on his vehicle's overhead lights (not siren) and began to follow Johnson's vehicle when her vehicle left the roadway again, drove into a ditch, struck a culvert and flipped over onto the shoulder of the road. Her vehicle then struck the right side of a black Honda Accord whose driver was not injured.
Johnson was taken to the hospital in stable condition and then to jail.
