Time's Up for Pit Bulls Rescued from Hurricane Ike
Whatever you may think about pit bulls – more formally known as purebred American Bull Terriers – you have to cringe at this news. Following Hurricane Ike, several pit bulls were rescued from Galveston Island – even ones that had been chained in place by their owners.
One even survived a snake bite on top of the high winds and water surge.
But now, the happy endings just aren’t coming through.
According to Wendy Mahoney of Pearland Pets, the pits are running out of time. They will be euthanized this Monday, October 6, if foster families or “forever homes” aren’t found for them.
All the dogs are spayed / neutered / vaccinated / heartworm-free and have been “temperament tested with people and other dogs,” Mahoney says. Want to volunteer? Contact her at firstname.lastname@example.org. – Margaret Downing
