Two Captured for $6 Million Jewel Heist; Third Guy Still on the Loose
Houston police are looking for the third man who helped take $6 million in jewels from a Bellaire store in February.
They've already arrested Jason Clay Kennedy and John Dewayne O'Brien; Kelvin Lynn O'Brien is still on the loose. (What's with all the Irish? Is it a Houston chapter of the Westies?)
The three men gained access to the KARAT 22 Jewelers store through the roof on the night of February 5, police say, "and then cut a hole into the vault to steal the merchandise."
We assume some disabling of alarms was also involved.
Their big haul did not go unspent.
Investigators say "the suspects had purchased numerous luxury items including a Cabin Cruiser, high end Mercedes Benz, a Land Rover, a $500,000 home, just to name a few."
HPD says $2.5 million in property purchased by the trio has been seized.
They were partly identified through surveillance video of Jason Kennedy's truck, which was seen circling the store and then being loaded with "an estimated $6 million worth of jewelry, diamonds, gold and watches."
Kennedy and John O'Brien were arrested in Dallas; police suspect Kelvin O'Brien is in that area also.
Anyone with information on the whereabouts of Kelvin Lynn O'Brien is urged to contact the HPD Major Offenders Division at 713-308-3100 or Crime Stoppers at 713-222-TIPS.
