This story is updated with the arrest of a suspect in the case.
Houston police homicide investigators have arrested Neil Mukherjee, 20, who is charged with capital murder in the killing of Vanessa Rodriguez, 23, who suffered several gunshot wounds at her home at 8520 Pitner on November 8 and was transported to Memorial Hermann Hospital where she was pronounced dead.
HPD Homicide Division Sergeant W. Meeler and Senior Police Officer J. Villareal reported:
HPD patrol officers responded to the above address after Ms. Rodriguez called 9-1-1 and reported she had been shot. Officers arrived and found Rodriguez on the floor of her apartment. She was then transported to the hospital where she died. Rodriguez's one-year-old child was also found unharmed inside the apartment.
Further investigation developed Mukherjee as the suspect in this case and information was received that he was in Donna, Texas. HPD homicide investigators, with assistance from local law enforcement in Donna, arrested him there on Thursday (Nov. 15) without incident.
Earlier it was reported that police had obtained surveillance video of an Hispanic male wanted for questioning in Rodriguez's death.
And as we reported earlier, Rodriguez called police to tell them she had been shot at her apartment about 11 a.m. Her one-year-old was in another room and was unharmed.
