Weekend Weather: Closing the Door on the Deep Freeze and Opening One to Spring?
Only in Texas can temperatures swing 50 degrees in a matter of a couple days -- ok, probably not ONLY here, but you get it. Tuesday morning, temperatures across the region were in the lower 20s. I have nearly dead plants that were too big to cover in my back yard to prove it. Fortunately, for us and our plants, that will completely turnaround over the next few days as highs get into the 70s, albeit the lower end of them, but still.
From layers of clothes to flip flops and shorts...at least in the afternoon. Weather in Houston is certainly a challenge in the winter, but at least it isn't a "polar vortex" that buried parts of the midwest and northeast in sheets of ice and feet of snow this past week. We all love to complain about the weather here, but nobody has to buy chains for their tires and snow blowers.
In addition to the warmer temps, we will also get a decent chance of some rain, particularly on Friday. After that, it appears sunny skies are in our future stretching out for most of the next week.
Expect highs in the upper 60s to low 70s through the weekend with lows dropping into the 40s. It may still be sweater weather outside, at least at night.
The next chance of any serious cold weather appears to be a little ways off, so enjoy the relatively normal Houston climate the next few days. This is the time of year when we are the envy of much of the rest of the country.
