You've Been Warned: 59 in Downtown to Be a Mess This Weekend

Traffic alert
Traffic alert

If you're thinking of using U.S. 59 to drive south through downtown this weekend, think again.

Tonight at 9 p.m., TxDOT will close all southbound lanes between I-10 and I-45 for repairs. It will stay closed until 5 a.m. Monday, although the possible severe weather predicted for the weekend may cause some changes.

The repairs are needed because vehicles that were too damn high have caused damage to the Bell Street Bridge.

"Motorists traveling southbound on US 59 will be detoured to IH 10/Katy Freeway," TxDOT says. "Those destined for downtown can take the San Jacinto exit and those trying to enter US 59 southbound can continue on IH 10 westbound to IH 45 southbound to access US 59 southbound."

Fun, fun, fun.
