Where some people see a chair, Tom Berg sees art. Working in Wyoming during the late ‘70s, Berg was painting a lot of landscape pieces, but was forced to paint inside his studio during the winter. As he looked around, he found some old lawn chairs. After hanging them flat on the walls, he discovered that they weren’t just objects, they had life to them. “The chairs have a sort of presence and that’s what keeps me painting them,” says Berg, who now lives in Santa Fe.
