It's hard to believe 2011 is only Girls Rock Camp's second year in Houston. Last year the week-long series of seminars where local musicians teach the next generation (ages 8-18) the fundamentals of stagecraft and songwriting – as well as workshops on body image and women in rock history – proved so popular that the 30 available slots for this year's camp filled up in a week. Like last year, the campers will split into six bands and work up one song apiece for Sunday's end-of-camp showcase, which has already become a highlight of the local music scene's traditionally slow summer season.
