Between her touring with Bob Dylan and Willie Nelson and running her own record label, it’s a wonder fiddler/singer Elana James has found the time to swing through Houston. James’s repertoire includes laid-back jazz, including the classic “I Got It Bad (And That Ain’t Good)”, perfect for a little cheek-to-cheek slow dance. Far from being stuck in a slow tempo, she’s apt to light the place up with a quick number like “Twenty Four Hours a Day,” which has a slightly Gypsy appeal and a faint French accent that will be familiar to Django Reinhardt fans. After revving things up, she can bed them right back down with a sweet bluegrass sound, singing “All the World and I,” full of plaintive vocals. 9 p.m. Continental Club, 3700 Main.
