  • Tonight: The 71's at Warehouse Live

The history of The 71's is not well documented, and a tireless Google search, set to their appropriately soul-seeking music, leaves many questions unanswered. Two previous EPs, The 71's and Want You Know, seem to feature none of the lineup present on latest LP We Are Locomotive save guitarist Ryan Cecil. So I assume, like the born-again Christian lifestyle The 71's so enthusiastically sing about, whatever troubles that once plagued them have been washed away. Though the band is quick to com

  • This Just In: The Flatlanders Cancel Cactus In-Store Gig

This morning word came from Cactus Music, via a quick MySpace bulletin, that the Flatlanders' in-store performance set for Saturday afternoon has been cancelled. No reason was given for the band backing out of the midday appearance. The roots-rock supergroup, made up of Joe Ely, Jimmie Dale Gilmore and Butch Hancock, is currently touring in support of March's Hills and Valleys release. The trio's Creighton Theatre gig in Conroe set for Saturday night seems to still be on, as no word of its can

  • The '90s Continue Unabated At House Of Blues, Homeslice!

Seriously, what's with the House of Blues downtown toying around with all our '90s modern rock nostalgia as of late? In the past eight months or so since the HOB has opened, the folks on Caroline have booked almost every quasi-major alt-rock band of the last decade, that has not died of an overdose or succumbed to early senility (cough, Courtney Love, cough). It was just last week that Gavin Rossdale of Bush trotted out his solo pony show to a packed crowd of aging Gen-Xers. Live came and pl

  • Aftermath: Better Than Ezra at House of Blues

Photos by Brandon K. Hernsberger Better than Ezra sounds like biscuits look after being popped from a can in your grandma's kitchen the Sunday after Halloween, belly full of candy. Like junior high - or more like high school (post-acne) - they're an Ansel Adams painting hung on the wall of your hotel room after prom. So click your Apple IIg on sepia and, in your best Zack Morris voice, say, "do the Bartman." These are the pop-up video days of our lives. That was the general feeling Saturday nigh
