  • Aftermath: Eagles of Death Metal at Meridian

Photos by Craig Hlavaty  It's super-hard to intelligently review a party band. You can't very well sit in one corner of the venue, gently stroking your scholarly beard jotting down notes on each intricate riff and drum fill. In the interest of science, you have to immerse yourself in the atmosphere and pray that you find some sort semblance of rational thought. Eagles of Death Metal is a party band, through and through. There is no time for shoe-gazing and opining on political s

  • Morning MP3s: Two From the Watermarks' Free Thoughts Like Bombs EP

Houston electro-rock quartet the Watermarks was kind enough to allow Rocks Off to post a couple of tracks from its brand-new Thoughts Like Bombs EP, which you can download for free on the band's Web site. To us, "I Used to Be Your Rock n' Roll" sounds like Black Rebel Motorcycle Club's chocolate got in LCD Soundsystem's peanut butter, while "Face The Wall" might have been left off Depeche Mode's new LP Sounds of the Universe. But maybe that's just us. Either way, nice job, guys.

  • He Said She Said: A Stripper Soundtrack

Rocks Off has a naked lady fetish. It's shameful to admit. We really like seeing naked chicks. It's been something we have dealt with since we were four years old and started sneaking into the women's dressing room when our Mom would go clothes shopping. It's not so cute today, what with the beard and druid's cloak. Once we got older and were dominated by peer pressure, we found ourselves in some random strip club every few months or so. We soon found that our demanding musical tastes dictated

  • MP3 of the Day: Passengers' Leather-Scented Death Dirges

Somewhere down our dark and booze-addled alley lies the sound of Passengers. Rising from the pieces of mod-punks Teenage Kicks, comes copious amounts of grimy leather-scented organ-infused Krautrock. This is the kind of music that the Brian Jonestown Massacre was making in the mid-'90s before Anton Newcombe turned into a right-wing gun nut. It also hearkens to the sound of the first couple of Black Rebel Motorcycle Club albums, and the collected works of Alex Maas' Black Angels, albeit with l

  • Please Help Us Give Away This Live Nation "Club Passport" We've Been Sitting on for Way Too Long

[Note: While we're on the subject of House of Blues shows, please note the Goodie Mob/Scarface concert scheduled for tonight has been rescheduled for Thursday, January 14.]www.drivebytruckers.comOnce again Rocks Off allowed ourselves to get distracted and nearly forgot we've got this Live Nation "Club Passport" to give away. Hey, we're busy. But we need to get this thing passed along to its proper owners, whoever they may be, like, NOW. In case you forgot, it gets the winner and a guest into
