  • Mitchell Pavilion Namesake-in-Law Surveys Venue's Renovations

Woodlands founder, developer and energy tycoon George P. Mitchell, left, tours the Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion - named after his wife - with Pavilion CEO Jerry McDonald to see the ongoing renovation after the suburban concert venue was severely damaged by Hurricane Ike. When completed, the $9 million construction project will expand the Pavilion's covered-seating capacity to 6,500. The total capacity, including the lawn, will remain at about 16,500, though Rocks Off has seen several shows

  • Suckfest - Sorry, Buzzfest - XXII Lineup Announced

Hey, didn't Korn break up after this album? They didn't? Our bad.In the midst of getting our collective Rocks Off panties in a twist over SXSW next week and the impending sweat-stained Westheimer Block Party, it's easy for us to forget what it's like on the other side of the music-snob fence. That's the other, seamier plane where lame-ass tricks like Red Jumpsuit Apparatus and 10 Years can help sell out amphitheaters on bills headlined by Korn, Papa Roach and 311. Where masses of fake-tit

  • Before We Go: News on Girl In a Coma, Willie D, Live Nation, Nameless Sound, Golden Cities and More

Before heading to Fitzgerald's tonight, Girl In a Coma had to make a little pit stop: a courtroom in downtown Houston, where the band's Jenn Alva and Nina Diaz had a preliminary hearing for the felony assault on a peace officer charges stemming from the late-night brawl at Chances back in March. However the case turns out, GIAC's brand-new Trio B.C. is an excellent album. As you no doubt have heard, Willie D of the Geto Boys has a few legal issues of his own. He was finally able to bond out of j

  • Discounted Woodlands Lawn Seats All Day

Craig HlavatyUntil midnight tonight, the folks over at Live Nation are selling all lawn tickets to shows way out in the woody, mall-y expanses of the Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion for just $24.99. The concert conglomerate has been running deals on Hump Day for about the past month to alleviate all this economic stress that has been plaguing our land, and came under fire recently when it came out that - although they were slashing prices - all those pesky fees and taxes were still being levied

  • Win a Pair of Kid Rock/Lynyrd Skynyrd Tickets

As part of Live Nation's all-day $24.99 lawn-ticket sale for shows at the Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion, they've kindly offered us a pair of lawn tickets to the June 30 Kid Rock/Lynyrd Skynyrd shred-off to give away. But of course, we're not just going to give them to you. If you want them, just answer this trivia question: What other song besides "Sweet Home Alabama" did Kid Rock sample for last years super-mega jam "All Summer Long?" (Hint: it's the piano part at the beginning.) The first pe

  • Bayou Beat: Live Nation Goes All In, ZZ Top Tickets Up for Grabs, Meridian Rocks the Sabbath and More

Courtesy of Stephen "Rube" Sager Live Nation has outdone itself on its latest "No Service Fee" Wednesday. All day, $29.99 buys a lawn ticket - one lawn ticket, mind you - parking, all those pesky fees, a hot dog and a soda for any participating show at the Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion. Once they figure out how to make beer a part of this (stupid TABC), it's really going to go through the roof. Speaking of, Rocks Off still has a four-pack of lawn tickets up for grabs in our ZZ Top/Steven Tyler

  • Bayou Beat: Three Fantastic on NPR, Beyonce Leads MTV Noms, Rocks Off Seeking Intern, More Live Nation Deals, etc.

Mark C. Austin Congratulations to Houston's Three Fantastic, whose "Hot Summer Day" was chosen as NPR's "Song of the Day" Wednesday. Comparing it to "one of those half-remembered Sugar Ray hits from a decade ago," NPR's David Browne is a little taken aback by the band's idea of a "glorious summer day": "As the music revs up, the litany of environmental disasters continues," he writes. "Trees burn to cinders and oceans boil; even the air conditioners are at loose ends." Sounds like Houston to

Chris GrayWilco's Jeff Tweedy at Verizon Wireless Theater, March 2008If you're reading this at all, Rocks Off will just assume you're fairly familiar with the Internet, and therefore that you more than likely also have a Facebook page.
