  • SXSW Update: Volunteers Needed; Dead Man's Bones, Dirty Honey Added

SXSW 09 performers the Homopolice at Rudyard's, Christmas night 2008 We always hear our friends complain about not being able to score a wristband or a badge to SXSW. We understand, it blows hard being a discriminating music elitist and not being able to make it to any of the big nightly shows. But as they do every year, the organizers of SXSW have a solution for anyone wanting to be part of all the depravity. You could always volunteer. You've been hearing for years how you should volunteer, s

Houston mash-up master Dave Wrangler recently remixed Animal Collective's "My Girls," from the Brooklyn buzzmongers' brand-new Merriweather Post Pavilion, for German Web site Byte.fm. Check it out below, plus his inspired pairing of Hercules & Love Affair and Ludacris' "Stand Up!"; both tracks appear on Wrangler's forthcoming Heads Up Houston mix CD; He

  • The 2009 Houston Press Music Award Nominees

Here they are, folks. You nominated 'em, we mulled 'em over and sorted out the stuffers, and now the 2009 Houston Press Music Awards ballot is set. Normally Rocks Off would say something cute like read 'em and weep, but since we've been listening to almost nothing but '80s hard rock and new bands that totally sound like '80s hard rock (Low Man's Joe, The Answer, Charm City Devils) for the past couple of days, we'll just say this: Eat 'em and smile. Just kidding. We know this is serious stuff, an
