  • Oh, Christ: Original Limp Bizkit Lineup to Reunite

Because things aren't already bad enough out there right now, the original lineup of crotch-rocking mooks Limp Bizkit annouced today they are reuniting. Here, according to a joint statement by the band's Fred Durst and Wes Borland, is their reasoning: "We decided we were more disgusted and bored with the state of heavy popular music than we were with each other."  Well, thanks for that, guys. Here's the catch: So far the band is only booked at festivals in Eastern Europe and the for

  • The Eagle Has Landed

Rocks Off only listens to Houston rock radio in small doses, but when we do it's usually of the classic variety. When our usual diet of AM talk radio veers into the right-wing ditch and becomes annoying instead of amusing, we pretty much shuffle between Country Legends 97.1 or the 93.7 the Arrow. On June 1, Houston's other classic rock station, 107.5 FM (KGLK), turned into an Arrow clone. Previously K-HITS, "the best of the '60s and '70s," it was rechristened the Eagle, "Houston's Classic Hits."

  • Ten Cover Songs So Bad They'll Shrivel Your Soul

Two nights ago, while carelessly patrolling the back alleys of the internet, Rocks Off stumbled across Hilary Duff's execrable cover of The Who's "My Generation". Well, what did you think, YouTube commenters? You sure you're not being too harsh? Yeah... ours too. Someday, when we are in our twilight years, we will think wistfully back to how we lived as teenagers, how we lived as college students, how freely we loved our first loves... and tearfully, we will remember the peop

  • ACL Fest Preview: Five Outdoor Music Festivals That Could Have Gone a Lot Better

The 2009 Austin City Limits Festival kicks off Friday, and many of you are no doubt devising parking strategies and grappling with various permutations of 'How will I make it from the [a] set at [b] stage in time to catch [x]'s set at the [y] stage?' It's a serious dilemma, as ACL always puts together a solid lineup. Our only advice to you is to blow off Dave Matthews and head to the Ginger Man. But aside from that, you probably have other lingering concerns. Music festivals are notoriously cha

  • Kick 'em While They're Down: The Worst Songs Ever Recorded For Charity

Please take this thing away from me. Please. When Rocks Off received an email touting Sting's new MySpace charity video for the Prince of Wales' Rainforest Project, we almost chipped a fingernail hurriedly clicking on the link, which promised oodles of celebrities such as Olivia Newton-John, Richard E. Grant and, of course, Pelé. Naturally, we were hoping for a new godawful charity song to horrify co-workers with; Hlavaty especially can only hiss and crawl under his desk when confronted with

  • "MMMBro": Hanson And Other Rock And Roll Bands Of Brothers

Back in the summer of1997, one couldn't walk out of their house without hearing someone humming, blaring, or damning to Hell that juicy nugget of pop rock that was Hanson's "MMMBop". Depending on your age and gender, you either understood the hooky genius of the song or you were just in love with the boys dreamy locks of hair and gentle Oklahoma-bred smiles. For a moment in time, Isaac, Taylor, and Zac could do no wrong in the eyes of teen girls the world over. Smug folks dismissed "MMMBop" a

  • A Few of Music's Biggest Tattoo Enthusiasts - Besides Rocks Off, Of Course

Don't act so surprised... As we can fatefully attest, rock and roll and tattoos go hand in hand. The first time Rocks Off saw a grizzled punk rocker walk by at Fitzgerald's back in the '90s with two sleeves full of tattoos and a chest full of nautical-themed art, we mentally pointed at him and said "That's what we want", and from that day on we were hooked. Since we started getting tattoos we have seen the world change in regards to how inked people are regarded. They were one or all the follow
