  • Artist of the Week: Coline

Each Wednesday, Rocks Off arbitrarily appoints one lucky local performer or group "Artist of the Week," bestowing upon them all the fame and grandeur such a lofty title implies. Know a band or artist that isn't awful? Email their particulars to introducingliston@gmail.com. How else to say this than with bold, forthright honesty: we thoroughly enjoy campy R&B. It's shameful, we know. But while Z-Ro, Trae and The Last Dragon dominates our references, sweet R&B calls forth our sincer

  • Annual Pazz & Jop Results Released

Congrats, TV on the Radio! This morning our sister paper in Manhattan's Cooper Square, the Village Voice, released the results of its annual Pazz & Jop poll, where hundreds of music writers and editors rank their favorite albums of the past year in what has to be an absolute nightmare for the people who actually compile the thing. Participants are given 100 points to among their favorite ten albums and singles. Check it out here. Unsurprisingly, TV on the Radio's Dear Science - which top

  • Aftermath: Solange Knowles and Gladys Knight at RodeoHouston

Photos courtesy Houston Livestock Show and RodeoA lot of good things went down at the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo Friday night, but Solange Knowles' performance was not one of them. The songstress paled in comparison to veteran singer Gladys Knight, who went on after Solange's 1960s- and '70s-inspired, mess of a set. In keeping with the theme, her band was decked out in hot-pink Beatlesque suits. The backup singers donned throwback hairdos, and their girl-group choreography was

  • Solange Knowles Shaken by Tour Bus-Deer Accident

Courtesy Houston Livestock Show and RodeoTurns out Solange Knowles had a pretty legit reason for being off her game at last Friday's rodeo concert: While she and her band were en route from Austin, their tour bus plowed headlong into a colony of deer. Solange is one of the most prolific Twittering musicians out there - 24,000 followers, 1,760 updates - and last night she used the microblog to relay her account of what happened: "I'm on the phone baking like betty in my bus bunk and CRASH

  • Twitter Ticker: Musicians Love to Overshare

It's amazing the things that people have to say in 140 characters or less. Some take forever to update their adoring public, about their lives while others tweet like it's about to go out of style. Do they not realize everyone can read these things? And that they are, more or less, setting themselves up for being the punchline in a joke about themselves? Apparently not. Though, for the most part, things have been quiet since Michael Jackson's funeral, the twitter-verse has is always buzzing from

  • Paternity Suit Aside, At Least Matthew Knowles Isn't as Bad as These Manager Dads

In news that was greeted with yawns outside of Houston - and not exactly shouted from the rooftops here - Matthew Knowles, father of Beyonce and Solange, has been slapped with a paternity suit by an actress in Los Angeles. This obviously wouldn't be much of a story if not for his famous offspring, and fooling around on your wife isn't quite in the top tier of bad things you can do to your kids, especially when you look at some of the finer specimens in the "manager dad" department.
