  • Tuesday Morning Quarterbacking: Really? That Good?

"That's as good a win as I've ever been around," Gary Kubiak said Sunday after the Texans 24-21 win over the Green Bay Packers. This probably explains why the Texans are a crappy team. Gary Kubiak was John Elway's backup on the day of The Drive, one of the greatest games in NFL playoff history. He coached Steve Young as the San Francisco 49ers won a Super Bowl. He was coaching John Elway when the Denver Broncos won their two Super Bowls, including that game against Green Bay when John E

  • Get Your Shrine On

For the second consecutive year the Shriners are bringing their postseason college football all-star game to the University of Houston's Robertson Stadium. The 84th edition of the East-West Shrine Game will be played on Saturday, January 17, 2009, with the kick-off set for 3:00 and the game to be televised by ESPN 2. This year's game will be coached by Bobby Ross and Gene Stallings. Ross, who will be the coach of the East team, is the former coach of the San Diego Chargers and Detroit Lions (

  • The Mt. Rushmore of Texas Sports

ESPN is about to start on one of those stupid SportsCenter promotion things that has helped to make SportsCenter virtually impossible to watch. But over here at Ballz, we like stupid things - I'm sure that many of you think anything I write is stupid and virtually impossible to read anyway. So I've decided to rip-off ESPN's idea, which frankly I hear done on sports talk radio all of the time anyway, so... What ESPN is going to do is come up with is a Mt. Rushmore of Sports for each of the 50

  • Some Praise For the Houston Texans (No, Really!)

Photo by William Holtkamp Many of you out there probably think that I hate the Texans. But I don't. I just hold them to a high standard. A standard that I think everybody should apply to them. That said, I'm not here to criticize the Houston Texans today. No, I'm actually about to say some nice things. The Texans made three moves this past week that pleasantly surprised me, and they're on the verge of making what I think is another good move. Now will these moves make the team a playoff t

  • The Beatification Of St. Bud, Patron Saint Of A-Holes

John McClain had the latest of his many love letters to Bud Adams inside yesterday's Chron. The excuse for this one revolved around this being the 50th anniversary of the founding of the American Football League.Reading this article, I had several thoughts, the first being that I thought the Chron mandate that its writers suck up to sports ownership and management extended only to current owners, and at that, only to current owners not named Les Alexander. It also got me to really missing
