This year, leading up to our annual Menu of Menus issue, Kaitlin Steinberg counts down her 100 favorite dishes as she eats her way through Houston. She'll compile a collection of the dishes she thinks are the most awesome, most creative and, of course, most delicious in town. It's a list of personal favorites, things she thinks any visitor or Houstonian ought to try at least once and dishes that seem particularly indicative of the ever-changing Houston foodscape. It's a list to drool over.
The first time I ordered at Pizaro's Pizza Napoletana, the owner, Bill Hutchinson, told me I was doing it wrong.
I wanted something light, so I ordered the arugula pizza with some extra prosciutto. I was finding it quite delicious when Hutchinson stopped by my table to inquire about my meal.
"It's great," I told him. "I love the thin, chewy crust and the crunchy bubbles on top. And the prosciutto and arugula combination is great."
"Why didn't you get the potato and mushroom pizza," he said, truly puzzled.
"I don't know..." I replied. "Are potatoes good on pizza?"
