$13 at El Jardin

Where: El Jardin, 7849 Harrisburg, 713-921-3633
What $13 gets you: enchiladas Mexicanas. Corn tortillas rolled in a tomato sauce, filled with white Mexican cheese, topped with more sauce, more cheese, cubed fried potatoes and grilled jalapeño slices, served with refried beans and a lettuce and tomato salad ($9.95).
El Jardin, past winner of Best Enchiladas in our Houston Press Best of Houston® edition, goes way beyond the usual fare that we've come to expect in East End family eateries. Enchiladas come in numerous Tex-Mex and Mex-Mex styles, with a variety of sauces, cheeses, toppings and fillings. White-meat chicken enchiladas topped with mole sauce, cheddar cheese enchiladas topped with chili con carne and chopped onions, crab enchiladas topped with a white wine sauce...you get the idea. You can mix and match your way to enchi-la-la heaven.
Recommended: Hell yeah.
Extra points: El Jardin's multi-colored décor alone is worth the trip down Harrisburg. Stop by on any weekend evening and take in a mariachi show.
