Any Given Sunday
The problem with David's spinach frittata ($8.99) at Katz's Deli & Bar (616 Westheimer, 713-521-3838) is that it's available only as a Sunday brunch item. Something this good deserves a spot on the everyday menu. A frittata is an Italian version of an omelette that's served flat, rather than turned over in the French way. This one consists of an interesting and tasty mix of creamed spinach, thinly sliced pastrami, mushrooms, fresh tomatoes and melted Muenster cheese, which binds everything together. It comes with a bowl of fresh fruit and a bagel or English muffin. The dish was originally named Ken's frittata, but Ken left, so now it's named after the current manager. Whatever you call it, it's the perfect way to round out any morning.
