Baja Bob's Sugar-Free Margarita Mix
Ever since Bethenny Frankel on the Real Housewives of New York City started peddling the Skinnygirl margarita, I have been curious about low-calorie cocktail.
I love me a good mixed drink, but as I generally dislike overly saccharine beverages, I find the average margarita rather cloying. At home I usually make them using a little bit of simple syrup and lime juice, though occasionally I add a few ounces of commercial mix to enhance the overall volume. (This also prevents me from wasting away in Margaritaville in no time flat.)
A few nights ago I tried to make my own skinny girl margarita using Baja Bob's Sugar Free Margarita Mix, which you can buy online or at some Spec's and Kroger stores.
Electric-green and flavored by Sucralose, the mix is hardly "natural," but it does provide that tangy lime taste one associates with those large-and-in-charge margaritas served in your average Tex-Mix restaurant. Although I ultimately prefer my purer homemade rendition, it was fun to imbibe this mocktail of sorts. I even got sort of a rush off the (artificial) sugar.
I would not recommend Baja Bob's Margarita Mix for the margarita connoisseur, but it would work very well in pitchers for party purposes. Also, its perfect for those three or so people still on Atkins.
