Bartender Chat: D'Neta Cavazos of Liberty Station
Liberty Station is the kind of chill bar that makes you want to enjoy a cocktail with some friends while tossing around a bean bag or two. And D'Neta "Jet Setta" Cavazos is exactly the bartender you want to see smiling at you from behind the bar. You can tell she's edgy - she's got facial piercings and wears a flower with a big plastic bug in it - yet her friendliness makes her utterly approachable. It's the perfect combination for a bartender.
D'Neta has been bartending for 11 years. She started over at Next Door, where she fibbed her way in by exaggerating her bartending experience. "There was a job available, and I was already a professional drinker, so I went for it." She says that she likes to be "experimental in her mixology" and she's "great at networking," so making people delicious drinks is a perfect fit.
Speaking of drinks, what is D'Neta into now? Martinis mainly, just slightly dirty: "I don't like porn star martinis." She's also a big fan of Three Olives Grape Vodka with soda and a splash of Cranberry. She's picky about her vodkas and prefers Ketel One, but will settle for Three Olives in a cocktail. What does she like most about bartending? "My favorite bartending moments are doing shots with bands like Mastadon, High on Fire, Bad Wizard, and Burning Brides and hanging out with them backstage or at parties afterwards." Sounds like a good time to us.
