Haven (2502 Algerian Way, 713-581-6101) has been the recipient of a bounty of accolades lately: In the 2010 Best of Houston® issue, we gave the restaurant the Best Ominvore's Dilemma Restaruant award, My Table's readers named it the magazine's Best New Restaurant a few weeks ago, and -- most recently -- Esquire named the restaurant as one of its Best New Restaurants of 2010.

With so much hype around Chef Randy Evans's rather humble restaurant, it's sure to be packed in coming weeks. But if you go at lunch, you can likely avoid the swelling crush of dinner crowds and you can partake in the daily Blue Plate Specials it offers during the week.
Each daily Blue Plate Special is only $10, a bargain no matter which way you look at it, but especially considering the restaurant's normal prices and its continuing popularity. Here's the weekly rundown of specials:
Monday: Red beans, rice, andouille sausage and jalapeno cornbread. Tuesday: Sabra ranch longhorn meatloaf, mushroom gravy and mashed potatoes. Wednesday: King Ranch chicken, grilled jalapeno pico and crema fresca. Thursday: Fried chicken and mac 'n' cheese. Friday: Fried shrimp and onion rings.
Lunch service starts promptly at 11 a.m. and now's the time to enjoy your fried chicken on Haven's serene patio while the weather's good.
