Cup of Coffee, on the King
Free coffee! That should get your attention. Burger King is offering a free, 12-ounce Seattle's Best Coffee during breakfast hours on every Friday in November. You've got two more left. And there's no purchase necessary. BK is stepping up breakfast efforts to compete with the McDonald's of the world.
I planned my Friday morning accordingly, estimated an extra five minutes to stop off at the nearest BK, and gave the coffee a try. Was I going to be a deadbeat and just get the free coffee? I thought about it for a moment and decided to tack on a sausage, egg, and cheese biscuit. I forked over my $2.80 and headed to work.
The coffee was just coffee, nothing special and a little weak for my liking. I'm guessing my cup of Kona at home from the previous hour didn't help its cause. Seattle's Best is a subsidiary of Starbuck's, and its coffee almost tastes like a toned-down version of the mega-chain's wares. It was average. Something that shouldn't be overlooked is the impressive lid. It had a good seal and excellent opening. I even gave it my fool-proof spill test by placing the coffee in my cup holder and hitting a massive pothole. Not one drop was sacrificed in the testing.
The service at this BK was fast and extremely friendly. But what totally missed the mark was my biscuit--salty, buttery, and just plain bad. I choked down half of it before calling it quits. I think I was most turned off by the brownish meat patty. Did I mention the coffee was free?
