Eat the Heat: Houston Hot Sauce Contest
Saturday and Sunday, the Houston Hot Sauce Festival will celebrate salsa on the grassy field at Stafford Centre. Along with the annual competition, there will be hundreds of hot sauces for the public to sample or purchase, as well as music on the fairgrounds from The Zydeco Dots on Saturday and Willie B. and the Silverbacks on Sunday. Fundraising activities will benefit the Snow Drop Foundation.
Dave "The Pope of Peppers" DeWitt, chile pepper authority and author of several books about chiles, will be on hand signing The Complete Chile Pepper Book along with his pepper gardening books. And the Pepper Princess, the festival's four-year-old junior beauty queen, will be there in her pepper tiara to preside over the festivities. If you love hot and spicy food and ice-cold beer, this is the place to be this weekend.
