Like Wine? Doing Good Deeds? Join Women of Wine Charities at Its Annual Benefit
The Women of Wine Charities hosts its Grand Tasting next week, a walk-around tasting event featuring world-class wines and bites from some of Houston's top chefs, including Reef's Bryan Caswell and Claire Smith of Canopy.
In addition, Karen Cakebread will be pouring from her new winery, Ziata Wines. Cakebread had spent 20 years with her family's eponymous vineyard and was recently named as one of Wine Spectator's "Six to Watch."
The organization, which started in 2007 as a peer networking group for women in the wine industry in H-Town, has hosted this annual charity event for the Houston Area Women's Center for the past six years, raising nearly $70,000 for the shelter and counseling center.
There is no theme, varietal or geographical, for this year's tasting. But Robyn Tinsley, a member of Women of Wine Charities, assures us the wines will be excellent. "Because we have so many people in the industry with access to really outstanding wines, we'll be able to bring in very good ones to pair with this food," she says. "You can't fool this crowd; you can't pass off the cheap family reunion wine here."
The event will also include a live and silent auction featuring travel packages, private wine dinners, spa packages and other fun gifts just in time for the holiday season.
WHEN: Monday, October 21, 2013, 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. WHERE: The Wynden, 1025 South Post Oak Lane, Houston 77056 COST: $100 for WOW members, $125 for non-members. Tickets are going fast, so buy yours now. (And yes, men are welcome, too.)
