Fabulous news for those of you still kicking yourself for missing out on the Just August Project last month... Two of the three acclaimed pop-up chefs -- Justin Yu and Seth Siegel-Gardner -- will man the kitchen at Wood Duck Farm's first-ever All-Star Chef dinner on Saturday, October 2. Both Yu and Siegel-Gardner are Houston natives who rightfully earned top reviews for their jaw-dropping culinary acrobatics at Just 8. Couple their outrageous talent with a local farm turning out some of the most painstakingly gorgeous produce around, and we've got a meal that'll make a believer out of even the most discerning of palates.
The five-course farm dinner is $75 (which includes tax and gratuity) and BYOB. The event begins with a reception around 3:30, and then a farm tour at 4. Dinner will start around 5. Interested?! Awesome -- Purchase your ticket on the Wood Duck Farm Web site now. Or just drop by the Wood Duck Farm tent at the Urban Harvest Farmer's Market on Saturday mornings. There you can meet amiable proprietor Van Weldon and check out some of the dazzling farm meats and produce.
The October 2 dinner is the first in Wood Duck Farm's new All-Star Chef Series of farm-to-table dinners headlined by some of the most outstanding culinary talents in Houston. Next up will be Stella Sola's Chef de Cuisine Justin Basye on October 24, and then Yelapa's celebrated chef L.J. Wiley on November 7. The food will come almost entirely from the farm, which grows fruits and vegetables and raises its own pork and poultry. Anything that's not grown on the farm is purchased from nearby vendors, making the meal almost entirely local.
The dinners will take place in the farm's enchanting old schoolhouse, an idyllic and picturesque venue for old-world ambiance. And perhaps best of all, each of these meals is sure to provide an inspiring level of gastro dynamics... It's called the All-Star Chef Series for a reason, you know. Kaaa-pow!
