Odd Pair: Corn Dogs & Pinot Blanc
There's something inherently fun about eating foods that come on a stick; corndogs, especially, since they evoke memories of fairs and carnivals and rodeos. They simply exude nostalgic childhood charm. What better way to enjoy them now that you're all grown up then to pair them with a lovely glass of wine?
To that end, I have found that the 2005 Adlesheim Pinot Blanc is a perfect "opposites attract" match for the corndog. A decidedly sophisticated white, this Pinot Blanc has a subtle fruitiness that meshes well with the cornbread crust. And you really can't go wrong when pairing a gussied up hot dog on a stick with a medium-bodied white. So the next time the carnival rolls through town, stick a bottle of Adlesheim in your trench coat and sneak sips of it while relishing your meat on a stick.
