It's been a busy week to be in the restaurant business, especially if you're in Montrose.
When Latina Cafe closed a few months ago, not many tears were shed over the loss of the little Cuban restaurant -- I liked it just fine, but it had gone downhill over the years by most standards. So there was nothing bittersweet about the good news that Kevin Naderi -- former sous chef at Haven -- is opening his own restaurant in the location.
According to its Facebook page, Roost will be "Houston's newest neighborhood farm-to-table restaurant serving social small plates in a homestyle setting." Naderi is well-equipped to carry out this vision, having been Chef Randy Evans's right-hand man at Haven, which helped pioneer farm-to-table food in Houston. Naderi also promises "local beers and affordable wines" at Roost, which hopes to open in December.
From the ever-reliable rumor mill comes some tidbits of information about Ruggles and Cafe Moustache -- and how the two are connected.
Our sources say that Bruce Molzan has received an offer on the Ruggles property near the corner of Westheimer and Montrose, which has been on the market since late 2010. It was initially reported that Gloria's, a chain of Salvadoran restaurants, would be moving in. But while we don't know who's moving in yet, we do know where Molzan is moving.
The recently closed Cafe Moustache will be Molzan's landing spot, says our source. Cafe Moustache owner Manfred Jachmich shuttered the faux-French restaurant a couple of weeks ago, and told B4-U-Eat that he planned on reopening soon with an American menu. That American menu? Will be Molzan's. No word yet on whether he'll be bringing the Ruggles menu with him, however.
In better news: As reported yesterday, Pierson & Company Bar-B-Que isn't closed for good -- it's just closed for now. Owner and pitmaster Clarence Pierson hopes to have it reopen again after the holidays, and after he finishes recuperating from a double knee replacement surgery.
Over in the Heights, CultureMap reports that Liberty Kitchen is nearly open. And the bar won't just serve local beers -- it's serving only Karbach brews, including two that are made specially for Liberty Kitchen.
Four new food trucks are hitting the streets, with Rice Box the first of the foursome out of the gate. The bright red truck was recently spotted in the parking lot of Anvil during a weekday lunch, where Chinese lanterns hung from its awning. EOW reader Chuck Cook posted a picture recently of an eggroll and chicken wings from the new truck. You can follow the truck on Twitter, but it doesn't appear to have updated its account yet.

The Stick It truck has finally hit the streets after a prolonged period of paperwork and City bureaucracy, celebrating its first service at Nick's Place on November 11. The truck specializes in food on a stick, but "not your typical fair fare." That means creations like chicken-fried steak on a stick and deep-fried Brie grilled cheese.
Finally, look for these two new trucks soon: one that specializes in hand-made chocolates and desserts, and one that specializes in hand-made barbecue from a guy that knows a thing or ten about the stuff.
