In big grocery news this week, Trader Joe's has set its sights on The Woodlands as its first Houston-area store, Phoenicia has finally opened downtown and H-E-B's Montrose Market is close to opening at 1701 West Alabama. The 78,000-square-foot H-E-B will open to the public this coming Wednesday, November 16. Like the new Whole Foods Montrose, this new H-E-B is energy-efficient and features a large outdoor patio for dining, as well as a small outdoor venue for concerts.

Elsewhere in Montrose, Cafe Moustache (which was previously So Vino) closed this week according to B4-U-Eat. "Manfred Jachmich says they haven't decided on a name but it will re-open by month's end - American cuisine," it reported in its weekly newsletter. Our question to Jachmich is: Why?

In other closures, the Midtown Farmers Market seems to be on permanent hiatus. The link to the market has been removed from t'afia's website, and Monica Pope told our source that the market had devolved from a true farmer's market into a place where people were just selling trinkets and sweets. Not to fret, however; there are two new farmers' markets in town these days.

Urban Harvest's latest markets run on Thursdays and Fridays. The market at Sugar Land's Town Square takes place on Thursdays from 4 to 7 p.m., while the market at HCC Southwest (5601 West Loop Freeway) takes place every Friday from 3 to 7 p.m. In season right now at all of the Urban Harvest markets are satsumas, melons, long beans, Meyer lemons, squash, okra, cantaloupe, peppers, garlic and basil.

Sugar Land has no shortage of new places opening these days, and this week is no different: Turkish Kitchen opened at 2109 Highway 6, just off 59. And the long-awaited Flying Saucer Draught Emporium has opened in the Town Square.

And yesterday saw the unveiling of the latest in a long line of chain-branded food trucks that are now hitting the streets: Central Market's Roadie. Roadie will be serving food in the Central Market parking lot on Wednesdays through Fridays from 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., and then again from 5 to 8 p.m. It will also serve straight through from 11:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays. I don't understand why Central Market needs a food truck if it never really goes anywhere (except for private parties and other functions), and the food could just be cooked inside the grocery store. But at least the Thai curry pork sliders I tried yesterday were damn good.
