Sampler Plate: This Week In Food Blogs

Zayt and Za'atar: This food blog was just introduced to us last week by a fellow Middle Eastern food connoisseur, and now we're in love. Brigitte serves up mostly Arabic dishes, as discussed in this post, Arabic Cooking 101: Back To Basics, in order to reconnect with her mother and teach herself how to cook along the way. One of her most recent recipes, Kifta, looked good enough to make our stomachs rumble loudly. At just a month into blogging, she's doing a great job so far.
The Mija Chronicles: Introduced to us by Guns and Tacos, this blog can be a bit all over the place (which we like), but when Lesley focuses on food she really gets us. She's been studying at an ashram in India as of late and posted these glorious photos of fresh parathas just to taunt us. Evil! Yet delicious.
H Town Chow Down: Albert has a fantastic retrospective of the Balinese Room in Galveston, which was lost during Hurricane Ike. Not many people know that Tilman Fertitta's empire started here back in the 1940s. Head over there and enjoy the fabulous photos and the excellent retelling of its history.
Whole Fish: Bryan Caswell details a little-discussed but very important aspect of dealing with employees when you're in the restaurant industry: bailing your cooks out of jail. A hilarious post that's well worth a read.
29-95: John gets his first taste of African cuisine at our favorite restaurant in all of Houston (yes, our absolute favorite): Blue Nile. We remember being in his shoes back in college, so it's nice to read a similar perspective and laugh at the same things we thought were odd back then, too. (We thought the injera bread tasted like a Dr. Scholl's insert at first, and are now smitten with it.)
