Food in Houston: Important news first: Anonymous Eater is back! Sort of. Our once-favorite food blogger now only does twice yearly updates, but we still crave every morsel. Check out where he's eating right now; it's a great, concise guide to the best restaurants that Houston currently has to offer.

Cypress Sun: In your feelgood story of the day, the Cypress Sun profiles local Haitian chef Edriss Pierre-Louis, whose plans to open a restaurant of his own in northwest Houston were derailed by the recent earthquake in Haiti. Taking the money he'd saved to open his own restaurant, Pierre-Louis instead bought 100,000 pounds of food and a ticket to Haiti, where he cooked and distributed meals for a month. To say that we need more chefs -- and people -- like this is an understatement.

The Ferm: Sir Ron is still going strong in his ongoing project to build a better beer map. You may remember our own United States of Beer map that was Sir Ron's inspiration; to date, he has mapped 20 states out of 50, and the current "Shilcutt-Norris Divergence Factor" between his map and ours is at 0.30. I have no idea what that means, having failed statistics in college. I'm going to go with "good."

Lushtastic: Speaking of beer, Lushtastic recently visited the Queen Vic Pub & Kitchen after hearing about its broad craft beer selection and was not disappointed. She also found an exciting bit of news while she was there: The Queen Vic is hosting a craft beer dinner on July 12 for $55 a person.

My Own Little Dust Pile: A big fan of breads that don't require a lot of prep or baking time (this is especially valuable in the summer), Melissa always has good recipes for the carby stuff. Yesterday, it was this post on sourdough ciabatta rolls that had me salivating, especially picturing a fresh one piled high with cold cuts, fresh tomatoes, oil and vinegar.

ROFL House: Lastly, Matt Chow checked out The Barbed Rose after hearing high praise for the Alvin steakhouse, but came away more than disappointed in his dinner, giving it a 2.5 out of 5 and claiming that it "could barely hold its own against an Outback Steakhouse." That's some harsh buzz right there.
