Robb Walsh: Walsh has been documenting a variety of very interesting, very timely and very Texan topics at his blog recently, from his impending roadtrip to the Southern Foodways Alliance with his daughter to the upcoming Foodways Texas fundraiser happening on November 9. But it's his daughter Katie's recent post on the Texas Cottage Food Law that really captures your attention. Will Texas finally legalize bake sales?
Cook's Tour: Chron food critic Alison Cook wasn't too keen on hearing about the new City Hall Farmers Market, it seems:
I rolled my eyes when I read the press release announcing the new weekly City Hall Farmers Market, to be held Wednesdays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. There are so many different markets in the Greater Houston area already --another one every month, it seems -- that they can't help cannibalizing each other and spreading the limited pool of vendors increasingly thin.
But did the bounty of fresh foods, fruits and veggies in the idyllic urban setting change her mind?
Culture Map: "Food in the nude" isn't quite as salacious or prurient as you were probably expecting. Instead, Joel Luks talks to local raw veganist Elizabeth Harris about the trend of eating raw -- uncooked fruits, veggies and nuts -- and cooking gourmet with those raw ingredients.
Wholefish: As long as you're watching Bryan Caswell compete on the Next Iron Chef each week, you might as well also read his blog. I think it's far more enlightening that the hoops that the Food Network puts the contestants through, with this most recent post as an excellent example: Caswell's thoughts on the "true" Gulf red snapper.
Chili Bob's Houston Eats: One of our favorite ethnic-food bloggers hit one of our favorite restaurants -- Shri Balaji Bhavan, which was recently named Best Indian Food in our 2010 Best of Houston® issue -- and tried out a different snack food for a change (instead of pakoras and vedas): kachoris.
Serious Eats: I somehow missed this when it first came out on October 4, but here's Serious Eat's great spotlight of local food truck Oh My! Pocket Pies. The folks behind the truck even had some prescient advice for mobile eateries like Ricky Craig's Hubcap Grill truck, which was shut down by the City of Houston last Friday after having seating too close to the truck:
