Seder You There!
Passover begins tonight at sundown and if you haven't already made plans for Seder tonight or tomorrow night, we've got you covered.
Seder, one of the most vital Jewish holidays, commemorates the Jewish peoples' release from slavery and the Exodus from Egypt. For the non-Jews among us, think of it as the Thanksgiving dinner to beat all Thanksgiving dinners. Seder is not only a religious holiday, but a time for families to gather under one roof and at one table to celebrate their heritage and count their blessings.
Traditional food served at Seder includes bitter herbs, roasted shank bones and roasted eggs. While it doesn't sound like a delicious feast, that's not the idea. Every item of food on the Seder plate is symbolic and represents a piece of culture or history, making it a veritable tapestry of food.
While most Seder dinners are held in the home, not everyone is able to make it home to family during Passover. Several area synagogues and community centers have solved that problem by opening up their Seder dinners to anyone who wants to come.
Seder dinners are available tonight at two Houston-area organizations:

To be conducted in English, Hebrew and Russian

Seder: 8:15 p.m.
Prices: $18 for children/students, $36 for adults

The JCC closes at 3:00 p.m. today in preparation

Prices: free for children under age 6, $40 for children ages 6-12, $45 for children over age 13 and adults
