The just-opened Montrose Diner (1111 Westheimer, 713-520-8281) serves up the classics 24 hours a day. One of the most popular entres is also one of the best buys: The "working man's breakfast," just $9.99, includes a grilled T-bone and two eggs any style. If you sit at the counter, you can watch the short-order cook throw your ten-ounce, certified Black Angus steak onto the sizzling grill. The meat, a 3/4-inch-thick cut of short loin, is slightly seasoned with salt and pepper -- nothing fancy, just a well-marbled piece of beef. Sunny-side-up eggs seem to be the most popular choice, but scrambled eggs with a healthy dose of hot sauce also work well with the steak.
