"My husband's dream is to own six restaurants," said Shelley Elham, talking about her husband and business partner, Babak. The new Table Seven (700 Durham, 713-426-1171) in the busy Washington area is the fourth of their restaurants, which include Table 7 Bistro and District 7 Grill. "We live in the area and we've been dying to open a place here," says Shelley. "Since most of our other places do a great lunch business, this is really our first expansion into the dinner business."
With the abundance of restaurants on Washington, is there room for everyone? "I think it's saturated with bars, not restaurants," says Shelley. As for the menu, it features items such as sea bass, salmon, blackened mahi, seared tuna and a Kobe beef burger. "Shannon Haley is the chef. She used to work with Monica Pope," says Shelley. "We call it 'urban American cuisine.' We also have an international wine list...We've tried to pick wines that no one else has."
Dish tried the Truffle Kobe Burger, which was spectacularly juicy and flavorful and may well make it to the list of top burgers in the city. And the barbecue duck pizza was ultrathin and beautifully crisp, although the sauce overpowered the other flavors.
